Saturday, May 13, 2018: S P Jain School of Global Management, the number one business school and the happiest campus in Dubai, launched the first phase of its Counselors Workshop series hosting over 15 schools from across the UAE. The university has global campuses in Mumbai, Singapore and Sydney offering students a truly global learning experience.
After being in the higher education field for over 15 years, S P Jain positioned itself as a pioneer in business technology and an active member in the community. Being involved with schools and educators in the region, the university witnessed the enormous efforts done by school counselors towards developing and enhancing students’ personal, social and professional careers. For that, a new concept was launched “Counselors Workshop: Phase 1” to show appreciation and support school advisers, equip them with modern tools/skills to face today’s challenges and create a community of educators that can work together for the betterment of our society. The university intends for this to be the first of many series to come, initially planned out to take place bi-annually.
The afternoon began with a welcome address by Director of Student Recruitment and Outreach, Sarah El Gohary, following an introduction to S P Jain by General Manager, Corporate Relations (Middle-East Asia) Chandrasekhar Singh. “I strongly believe that we can succeed far more than our expectations and abilities if we unite,” said Sarah. “We can make things happen if we work individually, that’s true. But can you imagine what we can achieve if we create a power group? There will be no limits to what we can accomplish.” A panel discussion under the title “Counseling in a Disruptive Age” included counselors Bijal Oza – S P Jain, Anna Howell – Al Dar Academies, Mansoor Ali Shah – American International School and Reham Saiid – Senior Global.
And in the Q&A session, other counselors were encouraged to share feedback on:
- how technology can be viewed as both a challenge and a blessing in modern education
- what needs to be done to have students earn back basic skills such as reading, writing and socializing
- what kind of initiatives are needed to prepare students for the real world
- the importance of raising awareness among parents and other community members
- the support of the UAE and its mission towards advanced counseling
The evening ended with a workshop for counselors titled “Mindfulness for Effective Counseling” conducted by S P Jain’s Director (Cross-Campus), Counseling & Coaching Center Bijal Oza. And finally, certificates of participation were distributed to all respected counselors who took part.
